Mary Peterson

RJO
CEO

Mary Peterson has served for the past 12 years as the Retail Jewelers Organization (RJO) Chief Executive Officer, and has a masters degree in leadership, policy, and planning from the University of Iowa.

Among her many duties as CEO, Mary has developed curriculum and facilitated education-based programs to ensure the continued growth and development of the retail jewelry industry. The Next Generation Experience and The Succession Experience have become popular events for the RJO membership. These intense two-day workshops allow participants to share through group learning, expert lectures, interactive activities, and accountability exercises. Currently, Mary is working on a new curriculum, "The Middle Manager Leadership Program.” She has enjoyed the opportunity to make RJO one of the strongest buying groups in the industry, with increased member and vendor services, so all can be successful. The RJO proudly stands with 900 member stores and 190 vendors.

Over the years, Mary has presented and facilitated a variety of breakout sessions and motivational keynotes to professional and fraternal associations, universities, elementary and secondary institutions, athletic teams, and businesses. Some of her areas of development include diversity issues, personal motivation, management training, relationship development, conflict resolution, and strategic planning. Her travels have taken her from coast to coast, and she has been asked to repeat many of her presentations, as well include follow-up consultations.

Mary has been married for 29 years to Eric Peterson, a high school guidance counselor. They have two adult children, Petey and Ben. Her passion is to make a difference in the jewelry industry to secure its growth and future.
